Children of color are disproportionately represented in the foster care system. To make matters worse, there simply aren’t enough African American foster homes and foster homes of color available to serve them. Without foster homes that consider their ethnic and cultural needs, children of color in foster care report feeling different, alienated, “othered”.
We're changing this. We’re growing our community of African American foster homes and foster homes of color to provide safe and caring homes for children of color. Our foster homes provide an environment that encourages the development of academic, cultural and social engagement skills.
At Youth Unlimited Inc, our children feel they belong. They’re not socially and culturally isolated. Instead, our children are provided resources and support that respect their cultural needs. At Youth Unlimited Inc, our children are seen, our children are heard, our children are celebrated.
Our children deserve to feel cared for in a safe, stable home.
